Team Principal

Clive Bate

Clive Clive has spent over 40 years in the insurance industry, 30 of which in International Management positions in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Integrity has been a cornerstone throughout his career.

With a passion for Ferrari since he used to marshal at Castle Combe and marvelled at the sound of Ron Fry in his 250 Berlinetta at full chat, Clive has been a Ferrari owner for over 20 years. A member of the Ferrari Owners Club both in the UK and Hong Kong, Clive’s’ cars, prepared by son Tim, have won a number of Concours awards.

Clive continues to be active in competition, campaigning in the Classic series at the Sepang Formula One track in Malaysia and has raced regularly in the Southern Festival events in New Zealand and at Macau, earning a third place in the 2003 Classic race that year.

The Ferrari passion has led him to team up with son Tim to launch EMBLEM SPORTS CARS. Ironically, Clive’s first Ferrari, a 308 GT4 had been originally supplied to its’ first owner by the original Emblem!

Emblem has been created by and for enthusiasts with a concept of providing a personal and comprehensive level of service for owners of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati outside the manufacturers’ warranty period.

Tim Bate - Director / Ferrari Technical

Tim After completing his education, Tim undertook a 3 year BTec course in Historic Vehicle Restoration in conjunction with the Beaulieu Motor Museum. This gave Tim a background in the sympathetic understanding of the traditional craftsmanship of building and maintaining historic automobiles. His first job was with Road and Track Motorsport in Hong Kong, a Porsche specialist, where he was taken under the wing of Barry Forth, a man renowned in the Asian Motorsport circles. Here Tim gained valuable experience working to tight deadlines and often in difficult circumstances.
Returning to the UK, Tim joined Westover Sports Cars, official Ferrari dealers at Pimperne near Salisbury (the original site of Emblem Sports Cars). During his formal apprenticeship, Tim was awarded Apprentice of the Year.

The Ferrari and Maserati dealerships were combined under Meridien Modena at Lyndhurst and Tim moved to be one of the first Ferrari technicians there, ultimately becoming the Senior Ferrari Technician. Here extensive experience was also gained on Maserati. During his 10 years with Ferrari dealerships Tim has undertaken numerous training courses at Maranello Concessionaires and at the factory in Italy, including the 360 and 612 launch courses and Enzo introduction.

Hands-on model experience spans from 250 up to 612 and exotics from F40 to the Enzo in Ferrari, from Biturbo to Quattroporte and 4200 for Maserati and Countach, Diablo and Gallardo for Lamborghini.

Myles Aldous - Director / Maserati Technical

Myles Myles has had a passion for cars ever since he can remember. In fact he was even employed in the industry as a schoolboy when he had a Saturday job at the local garage.

Subsequent completion of City and Guild courses plus NVQ in the motor industry saw Myles nominated for Apprentice of the Year, also receiving an Outstanding Achievement Award from Southampton Technical College. Early indications of a high achiever!

Myles served his apprenticeship with Scotthall BMW and in 1993 moved to Meridien Maserati where he became Senior Maserati Technician. He then widened his experience at HR Owen in London, one of the largest Maserati, Ferrari and Lamborghini dealers in the UK. Feeling happier on the south coast however, Myles joined Emblem as a founding member of the team.

With over 15 years specialisation in Maserati and concurrently 7 years on Ferrari, Myles has a strong reputation throughout the UK dealer and specialist network, especially for his Maserati knowledge.

Various courses have been undertaken both in the UK and at the factories in Italy of Maserati and Ferrari. Hands-on experience of Maserati ranges from the Biturbo range to the Ghibli and Quattroporte models through to 3200, 4200GT / Spyder and the new Quattroporte. Myles is equally skilled with Ferrari from 355 to 360 and 612 and Murcielago and Gallardo for Lamborghini.

Darren Anderson – Technician

Darren Locally trained technician Darren undertook his GNVQ qualifications in Motor Vehicle Technology at Southampton City College between 1995 and 1999. With over 12 years of Ferrari and Maserati experience behind him, 10 of which with main dealers, he has added to his knowledge by attending numerous manufacturers courses for both Ferrari and Maserati including F430, 360 (Spider roof) and gearbox, 575M, Quattroporte and higher level specification in electrical systems and diagnostic techniques for all Ferrari and Maserati models.

Darren is the soccer fanatic amongst the team, with both him and his Dad strong supporters of the Saints (Southampton). Also nuts about motorsport, Darren is our quickest Go-kart driver of the team having therefore all requisites for our careful selection process. It was early work experience in a Peugeot main dealer that convinced him that the motor trade and specifically the more exotic area was his future. Darren assures us it wasn’t his part time job as a pizza delivery driver that converted him to all things Italian at top speed!

As an established member of the Emblem team, Darren is fully trained and totally proficient in the operation of the latest computer diagnostic systems, SD1, SD2 and SD3, all of which are owned and operated in our workshops. Prior to joining Emblem, Darren was also supervisor for 3 trainee technicians and this sense of responsibility and an attitude of ‘only the best will do for our clients’ is part of Emblems’ DNA

Customer Liaison

Martin Chatfield

Martin As with Myles and Tim, Martin has had an interest in things mechanical since he was a small boy and has been a keen follower of motorsport and motorcycle racing ever since. Martin served his apprenticeship with Olds Peugeot in Dorchester before moving to specialise in sports and performance cars, working initially in the Pimperne location of Emblem and then moving to Meridien Modena and ultimately Westover Sports Cars over a period of 9 years.

Martin has race team experience as a member of the TVR Tuscan racing team, travelling to various UK and overseas circuits. He gained experience working on Ferraris from 308 to 360 in addition to TVR, Lotus, Morgan and Alfa Romeo and has attended factory courses for Ferrari in Italy.

Ultimately at Westover Martin became workshop foreman, responsible for a team of 5 technicians as well as technical trouble shooting and customer liaison. It is here that his skills complement the team, arranging work schedules, maintaining and sourcing spares supplies and, most important of all, providing that vital link between our clients and the busy workshop, able to discuss with confidence over the telephone technical matters relating to vehicle behaviour.
