MASERATI SERVICING - AN OUTLINE

When the time has come to have your pride and joy serviced, you may have many questions or concerns. Which service is required? When is it due? What's involved?

GranTurismo - GranTurismo S - GranCabrio

The first Maserati range to have a two year service interval and mileage intervals every 12,500 miles, common for both the 4.2 and 4.7 litre engines bringing service intervals in line with competing manufacturers. The GT range is the first Maserati to use Shell lubricants in all components, moving it in line with Ferrari models.

Quattroporte 2004 to present

The fifth version of the successful four door with a 4.2 and 4.7 engine available and post 2007 cars only supplied with the ZF auto transmission. There are four different types of annual service with different fuids and filters changed at each. Mileage service intervals are every 12,500 miles after the first 6,250 interval. Although there is no timing belt, auxiliary belts must be replaced according to the specification of your car. Hydaulic tappets are used in the engine, so valve clearances do not have to be checked. Auto transmission in later cars only requires level checks making the modern Maserati a more cost effective, less labour intensive car to maintain.

4200 Coupe - Spyder - Gransport

As with the Quattroporte, there are four different types of annual service with different fluids, filters and belts changed at each. Mileage service intervals are every 12,500 miles after the first 6,250 interval. As with the QP, although there is no timing belt, auxiliary belts must be replaced according to the specification of your car and hydraulic tappets are used in the engine so valve clearances do not have to be checked. Fuel filters have been removed from these models and from future Maserati's, thereby reducing servicing times for these models.

3200 GT

Mileage servicing intervals are 6,250 miles for the first service and then 12,500 thereafter. Valve clearances in the engine must be checked and adjusted, timing belt replaced and auxiliary belt replaced every 31,250 miles or every three years. The biggest service for this model is at 68,500 miles when the camshaft timing chains are replaced and cam timing is adjusted resulting in a twenty hour service. Buyers beware of cars around this mileage! Annual servicing is required every year even if the mileage interval isn't reached. There are three different types of annual service with fluids, oils and belts all due at different intervals.

Ghibli - Quattroporte IV - Shamal - 4v Bi-Turbo Models

Mileage servicing is required every 6,000 miles with these models. Valve clearances must be checked and adjusted every 12,000 miles and timing belts replaced every 24,000 miles. The 48,000 mile service will include the replacement of the camshaft timing chains. Fluids and oils should be changed on a regular basis if mileage intervals are not reached.

Bi-Turbo Models 2.5 and 2.8 V6 18v Engines

Mileage service intervals are every 6,000 miles. The 12,000 mile service includes valve clearance checks. Adjusting clearances in a labour intensive job requiring special attention to the three valve per cylinder engine. Timing belts must be replaced every 24,000 miles. Fluids and oils should be changed on a regular basis if mileage intervals are not reached.
